Chalcedony

Chalcedony frequently appears in the myths and legends of various cultures. In Egyptian mythology, the goddess Isis is said to have possessed a chalcedony stone in her later years, believed to be the stone of longevity.

In ancient China, people revered the concept of "round heaven and square earth," and thus chalcedony was often crafted into a circular shape to represent the heavens. Emperors in ancient China were referred to as "Sons of Heaven," with "heaven" symbolizing imperial authority.

In a popular folk tale known as 'The Jade Ring Saving the Emperor,' an emperor was nearly killed during a hunting expedition when a wild beast attacked him. At the critical moment, the chalcedony ring he wore emitted a radiant light, scaring off the beast and saving his life. 

Ruyi

According to legend, in ancient times, the heavenly emperor gifted a magical ruyi to the mortal world, capable of fulfilling its holder's wishes. A poor scholar came into possession of the ruyi and used it to help his fellow villagers, improving their lives.

Because of his selfless deeds, the ruyi brought him great fortune and wisdom. Eventually, he passed the imperial exams with top honors, achieving fame and success. Since then, the ruyi has been regarded as a symbol of good fortune and happiness, often used to convey blessings and wishes for a prosperous life.

During the Wei, Jin, and Northern and Southern Dynasties, ruyi became extremely popular, especially among emperors and nobility. It was even said to have been used in military decisions, with General Wei Rui using a ruyi to command his troops in the battles of Xuzhou, where he achieved several victories in one day.

Today, visitors to the Forbidden City in Beijing can still see exquisitely crafted ruyi made from precious materials, dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties.
